Year Three - Day 103

Sam's View

Today we went to Florence, OR. On the way there we stopped at devil's churn. It is a small canyon thing with water being pushed into causing big waves! Next to it is a spot where the water splashes the water making a geyser looking thing. It is pretty cool. :)  On the way back we stopped at the Seal Lion Caves. It is the world's largest sea cave! You go down 208 ft in an elevator. When we got all the way down, we went to the lighthouse viewpoint. When we went back down from the viewpoint we checked out the cave and there was a sea lion in there!!!!! It was amazingly awesome!

Summer's View

The drive along the OR coast was awesome, full of cliffs, trees, rock formations, and waves.  As the guys said, we stopped at some cool spots - the sound of the water thumping into the caves under the rocks was something I will never forget - it was more like a low rumble.  The Stellar's Sea Lion that posed on the rock formation in the cave was too funny!  What a ham!

Jim's View

Today we drove along the coast. We stopped here and there taking little hikes exploring various features along the coastline. There were lots of places to explore, like Devil's Churn. We had a great time on the rocks. We drove down to Florence, OR where we had a great seafood lunch. We explored this little coastal inlet town. Saw harbor seals, people crabbing, and lots of boats. It was pretty nice little town.

On the way home we stopped at Seal Lion Caves as Sam described above. We saw a few seals and one actually entered into the cave for a picture session. It was amazingly awesome!

Year Three - Day 102

Sam's View

Today was a stay home day. We went swimming and later we went out to eat.

Summer's View

Stay home day in the fog, had to hit the hot tub to warm up, but it was good!  :)

Jim's View

Another day in the cold damp Oregon beach. We have had the heater on ever since the 1st night arriving here. The first night here was the only time we actually saw a sunset. We are told this is Oregon.

All the beaches are public here and they love the rain as they say it is the one thing that ensures the Malibu Beach, CA crowd does not move here and then think they own the beaches. Sounds like a plan to me. Sam and I hit the pool and spa. Sam is great company at the pool, just plan on staying there for a while!

Year Three - Day 101

Sam's View

today we went to a thrift store and got a beanie baby! yay! after that we went to the Hatfield museum! they had a yellow submarine, a buoy and a Japanese dock brought here by the 2011 japan tsunami!

Summer's View

Like Sam said, we went to the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. They had lots of educational displays and hands-on activities, along with a piece of a dock from debris that washed ashore from the tsunami in Japan a few years ago.  They also had a cool octopus, and she was not shy about displaying her versatility! Beautiful!

Jim's View

Another office day for me. Sam and I have been using the pool, sauna, and hot tub. I am taking advantage of them while here. This cold damp air brings out all old and new aches and pains.

Year Three - 100 !

Sam's View

Today was a stay home day. We went to the beach right next to the campground and went to one of the two pools they have! there is a picture of buster jumping below because that is what he does when he sniffs a sea creature :)

Summer's View

Sam and I explored the beach for a while, then Jim came down to explore with us, bringing Buster. Buster was awed by the ocean waves!  Later, the guys tried out the swimming pool, hot tub and sauna - said they were all good!  :)

Jim's View

For me it is a work day. It is cool, always windy, and fog is always in the area. So beautiful, but hard to use my outside office. :(   Summer and Sam went to the beach. I hooked up with them later. We had a massive seafood feast for lunch/dinner. Good food. I pretty much am going seafood all the way here. They also have a local brewery with 40 taps that I will be trying out. Well, as I said, a work day.

Year Three - Day Ninety-Nine

Sam's View

Today we travelled to Newport, OR! It is right next to the beach! We went out to eat, we saw some California sea lions! That was really awesome.

Summer's View

We arrived in Newport, OR today, which is a small coastal town full of seafood and seafood restaurants.  We are staying at a campground with a site that overlooks the ocean - woo hoo!

Jim's View

Today we moved. Sam has been wanting to stay on a beach. Summer found a "coach" park (no one under 25' allowed, and they have a coach age limit). It is not on the beach, but "above" the beach. Pretty much all the beaches around here you have to make your way down to them. Sam and Summer checked out the beach, while I got set up. Nice place, windy a lot, so not too much awning action and I am worried about the satellite dishes up top. We will see.

We had dinner in the historic port area. Great seafood. Great price too. Now I am full and it is time to relax. This is our first real view of the sunset over the Pacific.

Year Three - Day Ninety-Seven

Sam's View

Today was a stay home day.

Summer's View

We stayed at home today, then went out later to buy phones for our businesses - both their phones are dying! After finally tracking down a place at a mall, we went to eat at Outback Steakhouse - Alice Springs Chicken!!  Yum!

Jim's View

We were going to go to Portland for some seafood, but we spent too much time shopping for phones. It seems all the Best Buys are closing or moving out here and drove to everyone that was closed. After finally doing our business we went to eat at Outbacks and the Red Sox were on playing the Mariners. The Sox were down 7-2 when we walked in. I think you all know what happened. The Red Sox came back in the 9th to take the win. The food was good too!
