Year Four - Day Forty-Three

Summer's  View

Today we drove over to the Creamer’s Field Migratory Bird Center to do some bird watching. We walked around the lake area and some fields, but we only saw some Sandhill Cranes (cool) and some Savannah Sparrows.
Later in the day, we went to the Gold Dredge 8, which is an old gold dredge that was operational until the 1950’s. There are still active gold mines in the area, some of them quite lucrative!  We rode a train up to the dredge, and the tour guide was very informative about the whole operation and how it all worked.

When we reached the dredge, we were all given a bag of rocks and dirt to pan our own gold. Sam loved this part the best! J  When we went in to weigh our gold, it was worth $38.75.

After gold panning, we toured the dredge itself, which was massive! We took the train back to the gate, where the tour guide gave us some more information – this time about the Alaska Pipeline, which was running right through their front gate! We enjoyed our tour a lot!
