Year Three - Day 105

Sam's View

Today we went hiking. We saw waterfalls, big rocks, and we saw some really big trees it was really cool! After that I found a big rock that you can slide down! I slid down it 3 times! That was fun.  :)

Summer's View

We hiked just outside of Prospect, OR to see Mill Creek Falls and the Avenue of the Giant Boulders.  These were both along the Rogue River, which is the big draw to this area, lots of raft rentals all around.  Before the hike, we stopped at a roadside truck selling sandwiches, and Jim got a Mississippi mud slinger, which was a burger with pulled pork and cole slaw on it. Sounds weird, but it smelled good and he said it was tasty!  After the hike, we went back so I could get a pulled pork sandwich, and it WAS good!  Yum!

We also drove further south, intending to check out the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, but found out after we reached the area that it is really a marshy area with rivers and streams surrounding it. Canoe trip would have been the way to see it, but it was late in the day and we were unprepared.  We did stop at a cute little campground area at Rocky Point, to buy some ice cream and walk along their docks, checking out the birds there and some chipmunks.

Jim's View

We hiked some waterfalls. Lots and lots of waterfalls in Oregon. Later we drove to wildlife refuge area. Lots of driving, sight seeing, and again lots of cattle. I really like it out here. Lots of space, beautiful land, and did I say, lots of waterfalls! The hiking, the boulders, the rock throwing, just getting out there is helping Sam get his outdoor feet under him. Despite his insistence that he is afraid of heights Sam does not seem to mind scaring mom and me walking on the edge, going up and over boulders, and throwing rocks and sticks over the cliff or into the rapids. Good for him!
