Year Three - Day 106

Sam's View

Today we went to Crater Lake National Park! Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the U.S.! it is 1,943 ft deep and it is over 2 miles in diameter! We were going to do the boat tour but it was closed because of rain.  :(

Summer's View

Today we went to Crater Lake National Park. The water is so blue!! Beautiful! During the day, it was sunny, rainy, cold, and hot all in a few hours! Weird!

Jim's View

Crater Lake! When you first get up and look over the rim, pretty blue comes to mind. The water is so blue! It turned into a windy cold rainy day with some snow thrown into the mix. We did learn at the visitor center that the crater was formed because the volcano collapse into itself into an emptying magma chamber. Geology up close.

We drove around the rim stopping at various lookouts. Towards the backside of where we started, the weather was nice with no rain or wind. It's amazing what a few miles and a little time can do to the weather on a mountain. We did one small hike and at 12000 ft small can seem pretty hard. After catching our breath we heading back to the rim road.

Sam decided to do the Jr Ranger program so he has been busy working through the workbook most of the drive. We will turn it in tomorrow, and he will earn his badge. On the way home we stopped at "Becky's Place" for some dinner. Quaint and cool place, but food, so so. Finally home to see Buster.
